Lighting a gas stove

How to use a gas stove

Check your safety before lighting your stove :

To avoid fires, roll up your sleeves above the elbow and tie your hair back. If you have any jewelry, take it off. If you wear shoes, make sure they don't slip to avoid accidents in the kitchen.

Turn the kitchen knob to turn it on :

Most gas stoves have a button that turns on the burner. In general, you can adjust the heat to low, medium and high depending on the use you are going to have. Turn the knob and wait for the burner to ignite, then adjust it to the desired heat. In some cases, the fire does not ignite immediately. This is common in old kitchens and should not be of concern to you.

Try cleaning the burner and lighter ports :

if the range does not light immediately. If the burner is clogged with food debris, it may not turn on automatically. Clean it with a stiff toothbrush (without water or cleaning solution) to remove grease or crumbs. Use a needle to remove food from hard-to-reach places, such as the burner holes. Call a technician if cleaning the burner does not give any results. It can be broken and will likely need to be replaced.

If the stove lighter is broken :

you can manually light it with a match or lighter on most models. Turn the gas knob to medium heat, then light the match or lighter. Hold them near the center of the burner, then wait 3-5 seconds until it burns. Remove your hand quickly to avoid getting burned. Use a long-handled lighter for a safer option. If you've never turned on a gas stove manually or seen someone do it, you may not be able to do it on your own. Starting a kitchen manually can be dangerous, take every precaution.
